What’s Next? Short List of Hevesi Replacements

Now that Alan Hevesi has resigned, the political jockeying begins among contenders to take his place. The legislature, which is dominated by Democrats, will fill the vacancy.

So far, the field includes Wall Street financier Bill Mulrow, Former US Attorney Denise O'Donnell of Buffalo and a number of Assembly members. Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is a potential kingmaker, though the new governor, Eliot Spitzer, could try to exert his influence.
