Brooklyn's High Rise and Arena Project Faces Crucial Vote

New York, NY —

Developer Bruce Ratner may not know until next year whether he's got the official go ahead to build his controversial basketball arena and high rise project in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.

The last official hurdle is the state's Public Authorities Control Board, which is supposed to vote tomorrow, but Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver may hold off on the project's final approval until January 1st, when fellow Democrat Eliot Spitzer is governor.

A Silver spokesman said the Assembly leader received what he called a significant amount of financial information on the project from the Empire State Development Corporation, which approved the Atlantic Yards last week.
