Corzine to Announce More Funds for Stem Cell Research

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

New Jersey governor Corzine reportedly plans to announce more funding for stem cell research Monday.

REPORTER: An unnamed senior administration official told the Associated Press that ten million dollars will be made available for research grants. Most of the money will go toward embryonic stem cell research. Last week, the state legislature approved 270 million dollars for stem cell research facilities in Camden, Newark and New Brunswick. The grants expected to be announced Monday would come from the 31 billion-dollar-dollar state budget signed into law in July.

Corzine has described stem cell research as a field that could boost the state's economy.
