New York Democrats Pick New Leaders

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

New York Democrats have picked two new co-chairs to run their state Democratic Committee. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports:

REPORTER: Members of the New York state Democratic Committee were jubilant at a special meeting in midtown yesterday. They gathered to elect June O'Neill, the Democratic chair in upstate St. Lawrence County, and Dave Pollak, a Democratic activist and fund raiser. Party officials hope that the two co-chairs will broaden an upstate voter base and continue the pro-Democratic wave that has swept the state.

Incoming co-chair O'Neill says they will seize that momentum.

O'NEILL: We are on the crest of a wave right now and we have been handed a marvelous opportunity to move forward the New York State Democratic Party that is inarguably is in the best shape it's ever been in...

REPORTER: The co-chairs will replace Assemblyman Denny Farrell who has held the post since 2001. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera.
