New York State Senator Charged with Conspiracy

New York State Senator Efrain Gonzalez Jr. has been charged with conspiring to steal $423,000 from not-for-profit groups. Three others were also charged. Senator Gonzalez's lawyer denies the charges and says they'll beat them in court.

Gonzalez allegedly steered state grants to charity groups over 5 years with the intent of keeping the cash. Federal prosecutors say Gonzalez used taxpayer money for rent on a luxury apartment used by his wife in the Dominican Republic.

He's also accused of using stolen money for rent on a residence in Monroe, New York, as well as Yankees tickets; jewelry; clothing; tuition for his daughter; and financing for his Dominican-based cigar company.
