Rare Tropic Giant to Bloom (and Smell) in Brooklyn

New York has not seen one of the world’s largest – and smelliest – plants bloom since 1939. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden says this is the year -- and this is the week -- for its specimen, which is sitting in the main conservatory, waiting to blossom at any moment. WNYC’s Fred Mogul spoke with the Garden’s Patrick Cullina about the 5-foot-tall Indonesian plant he’s calling a “Horticultural Haley’s Comet.”
