Pataki Vows More Vetoes on Budget

It's down to the wire for the New York state budget. And Governor Pataki is promising more vetoes if state legislative leaders won't compromise.

REPORTER: So far, Pataki has made more than a dozen cuts to items passed by the Legislature. They have to do with public protection and general government issues. Health and education vetoes are due by midnight tonight.

Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver say they will override the vetoes. Silver also questioned Pataki's leadership and whether his actions are motivated by his interest in running for president in 2008.

SILVER: legislature tried to deal with educating people providing health care and job opportunities the only arguments that I see across these vetoes are they are full of technicalities.

REPORTER: In his veto, Pataki said that under the state Constitution the Legislature can't change his plan even with an override by two-thirds of the Assembly and Senate.
