More Human Remains Found Deutsche Bank Building

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

More human remains have been discovered on the top of the Deutsche Bank building adjacent to the World Trade Center. 74 bone fragments found over the weekend make it the largest discovery since The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation began dismantling procedures last fall.

Most of the fragments found by construction workers were mixed into gravel that had been raked to the sides of the roof. The Medical Examiner's office will conduct DNA testing for identification and store the remains for future examination. Some 14 fragments found over the past few weeks could not be identified using the latest testing methods. Officials expect more to be found in some 100 yards of material still needed to be sifted.

Families of the victims are calling on the city to post medical examiner staff on site. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation credits the thorough work being done by construction workers and is not not ruling out further searching by police and fire officials.
