Child Molester Released from Hospital, Sent Back to Prison

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

A convicted child molester was released yesterday from Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, a maximum security facility on Wards Island, then immediately sent back to state prison.

Robert Warren, 42, was ordered jailed after parole officials learned he was planning to move back upstate to rural Saint Lawrence County in "close proximity" to a 9-year-old girl.

He was convicted in 1998 of sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl, and had planned to move into the house where the 9-year-old lives.

Governor Pataki defended his order committing 27 sex criminals confined to a mental hospital after finishing their jail terms and has been trying to get the Legislature to pass a civil commitment law.
