Bloomberg Lays Out Second Term Agenda

New York, NY —

Mayor Bloomberg took his campaign to Harlem's City College yesterday, where he pledged to double child care and pre-Kindergarten slots, as well as enroll every eligible child in a health care plan. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

REPORTER: Mayor Bloomberg was with Reverend Calvin Butts when he layed out his ambitious second term agenda.

BLOOMBERG: In stark contrast with my opponent I have made promises we can afford that are not funded by tax increases.

REPORTER: All of the polls show the mayor is running strongly in commutinities of color, which are historically the heart of the city's Democratic base. Reverend Calvin Butts, an early Bloomberg backer says he has no trouble reconciling his attitude about national politics with his support of the Mayor.

BUTTS: I believe the war in Iraq is an abomination. I think the Bush Administration is corrupt up to the wazoo. As the kids would say Bush and Cheney are the original gangstas. I do not believe that is Michael Bloomberg.

REPORTER: But Bloomberg's Democratic opponent fails to see the distinction. Fernando Ferrer says Bloomberg has given money to Republicans in Washington and therefore is no different than they are.
