Downtown Groups Fear Bank Building Demolition

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Community groups in Lower Manhattan say they fear the deconstruction of the Deutsche Bank building near the World Trade Center site will spread environmental toxins throughout the neighborhood.

The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation announced today it has received preliminary state approval to begin the process. Work could begin early this summer.

The building suffered permanent damage from falling debris on 9-11. Residents say their fear asbestos, lead and other toxins could be re-released into the environment.
