Last Day for Public Comment on WTC Site Plans

Today is the last day for public comment on the plans for the memorial at the World Trade Center. WNYC's Bob Hennelly spoke to commuters in Lower Manhattan this morning after a week when plans for the site were in flux.

There was no consensus at the World Trade Center PATH station on what should be done at the site. But the rekindled public debate has re-opened wounds for some commuters who pass through it everyday. Teacher and poet Sharon Lynn Griffiths says she thinks building the 1,776 foot Freedom Tower will invite another attack.

GRIFFITHS: Are they crazy. It is like saying here we are. Lets do it. Come back. Bring it on. It is so arrogant."

Almost four years later, the plan's balance between commerical space and public space remains controversial. Yesterday, officials received 400 public comments on the fate of the memorial.
