Two Minutes With...Kathleen Guzman, Auctioneer

Kathleen Guzman has been an auctioneer and appraiser for 30 years. She's auctioned off everything from a watercolor by Monet to the Wizard of Oz's Ruby Slippers. She decided to put her experience to use volunteering at Housing Works after losing her full-time job earlier this year.

Listen to the first installment of the series '2 Minutes With,' in which we catch up with Guzman at a Housing Works thrift store on 23rd street.

Guzman holds a Currier & Ives print of the High Bridge (at Harlem) that she'll auction off at the next Housing Works live auction (of early American prints) on January 27th.

Recently, Guzman recognized a German landscape painting that had been donated to Housing Works. It wasn't apparent that it was valuable but because she'd seen it at auction four or five years earlier, she knew otherwise. Because of her, it ended up in one of Housing Works' window auctions rather than being sold for next to nothing in the thrift shop. Click below to hear Guzman explain her find.
