WNYC News | Aug 10, 2010

One person was killed Tuesday morning when a livery cab hit a bus stop in the Bronx.  Six other people were injured, and three remain in critical condition.

An NYPD spokesman says the blue Lincoln was travelling eastbound on West Fordham Road toward University Avenue when it collided with another car, sending it up on the curb and into the bus stop.

An FDNY spokesman says three of the injured are in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center.  Three others were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

Pictures of the scene show piles of broken glass along Kingsbridge Road.  The accident happened shortly before noon.  Six of those injured were bystanders, including some people waiting for the bus.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission says the driver appears to be have been licensed since 2002 and that both his vehicle and his license are in good standing.  A police spokesman says both drivers remained at the scene after the accident, and no summons has been issued.
