No, Itai Kriss is not from Cuba, but if you listen to “Danzón No.1,” you’d never guess it. The Israeli master flautist deftly navigates the fluttering musical language of classic Cuban instrumental music, but it’s not all he can do. A brief tour of Itai Kriss’ debut album The Shark shows he’s equally comfortable leading an ensemble in progressive funk, straight-ahead bebop, or jazzed-up reggae. Tonight at Fat Cat’s, Itai plays three sets with his Latin outfit.
