After Train Crash Deaths, Family Remembers Life of Loving Mother

WNYC News | Feb 6, 2015

Hundreds of mourners filed into a packed Chabad center Friday to honor Ellen Brody, the woman struck by a Metro-North train earlier this week, after her car was caught on the tracks. At the family's private funeral on a cottage-lined street in Dobbs Ferry, Brody's family and rabbi spoke to a packed hall about what they called that "Ellen Smile."

"A ray of sunshine," longtime friend Vicki Winters said, speaking after the service. "She lit up a room like nobody's business. She could befriend anybody and everybody. She was inquisitive, loving. She was a mother of three amazing girls... She had the most amazing marriage built on respect."

As the investigators scramble to learn the details of Brody's mysterious death, WNYC's Julia Longoria talks to mourners about her life.
