Lila Shapiro, senior reporter for Vulture, joins us to discuss her picks for the best books of the year and take listeners’ calls as part of our ongoing series, “AOI + NY Magazine’s Best of 2020.”

[REBROADCAST FROM OCTOBER 5, 2020] Rumaan Alam joins us to discuss his new novel, Leave the World Behind, which was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Award in Fiction. Set at an AirBnb in a remote corner of Long Island, Amanda and Clay are on vacation with their two teenage children. Late one night, Ruth and G.H., an older couple, knock on their door bringing the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city … and that a mysterious apocalyptic event is coming.

[REBROADCAST FROM SEPTEMBER 25, 2020] MoMA PS1 reopened on September 17 with author and professor of American Studies and Art History at Rutgers University Nicole Fleetwood's exhibit, "Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration." Featuring art made by people in prisons and work by nonincarcerated artists concerned with state repression, erasure, and imprisonment, this major exhibition explores the centrality of incarceration to contemporary art and culture and is up through April 4, 2021.
