All Of It with Alison Stewart | Feb 26, 2021

Ahead of the Golden Globes, we speak to nominated writer/director Florian Zeller, who received a nod for Best Screenplay for "The Father," which stars Olivia Colman and Sir Anthony Hopkins about a daughter dealing with her father’s dementia.

This Sunday’s Golden Globes arrive in the midst of controversy surrounding the lack of diversity in nominations, and among the Hollywood Foreign Press themselves. Plus new reporting by the Los Angeles Times has cast further doubt on the integrity of the nomination process. Kyle Buchanan, awards columnist for The New York Times, joins us to break down the controversies, make predictions, and answer the question... should we even care about the Golden Globes?

Artist and designer Brian Donnelly, known in the art world as KAWS, launches his first-ever career survey at a major New York institution today, with the Brooklyn Museum's "KAWS: WHAT PARTY." Curator Eugenie Tsai joins us to talk about the highly anticipated show.

We wrap up February’s installment of the "Full Bio" series with a look at the last years of Frederick Douglass’s life, including his experience as minister and consul general to Haiti. Historian David W. Blight, author of Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, describes the reaction to Frederick Douglass’s death in February of 1895 as well as why Douglass’s second marriage to a woman named Helen Pitts became one of the biggest scandals in 19th century America.

[REBROADCAST FROM AUGUST 3, 2020] Historical accounts of whaling in America often overlook the significance of Black captains and whalers of color. Historian and 2020 Martha’s Vineyard Medal recipient Skip Finley discusses his latest book, Whaling Captains of Color: America’s First Meritocracy, about the history of Black whaling captains on Martha's Vineyard and throughout the United States.

WNYC arts and culture editor Jennifer Vanasco recommends some (safe) activities for this weekend.
