'New Yorkers,' Barbizon Hotel, Pandemic Relationships, Post-Internet Picture Book

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Mar 16, 2021

Author Craig Taylor moved to New York in 2014 and over the next six years, he spoke to more than 180 residents to learn their stories. The result is the book, New Yorkers: A City and Its People in Our Time. He joins us to share how the book came together and some of those stories.

WNYC planning editor Kate Hinds joins us for our ongoing series, "Kate Has a Plan," to discuss the stories the newsroom is following this week.

A new book tells the history of the Barbizon Hotel, a New York City residential hotel for women that served as a home for many local greats from Sylvia Plath, to Joan Didion, Phylicia Rashad, Liza Minnelli, and many more. Author Paulina Bren joins us to discuss her book, The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free, and take calls from listeners who stayed or lived at the Barbizon.

As we approach a year of social distancing and an altered life due to the pandemic, we take a moment to examine romantic relationships that might have formed during the past year. What questions should pandemic couples, who only know their relationship in this very specific context, be asking themselves as a more open life seems on the horizon? Matt Lundquist, founder and clinical director of Tribeca Therapy, joins us to discuss how to transition a relationship out of pandemic life and takes calls from listeners.

The book, Off: The Day the Internet Died: A Bedtime Fantasy, is a children’s book that imagines what would happen if we suddenly were forced to stop scrolling and explore nature. Author Chris Colin and illustrator Rinee Shah join us to discuss this new take on a children’s book.
