Listening Party: Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, New Faith Ringgold Exhibition, 'Lincoln’s Dilemma On Apple TV+, Christian Dior Exhibition, David Mills' Boneyarn: Poems

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live In Colorado is the first vinyl collection from Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir and his band, formed in 2018, of Don Was and Jay Lane. Weir joins us for a Listening Party.

The painter, educator, and organizer Faith Ringgold was born into the Harlem Renaissance in 1930. After getting her degrees in visual arts at the City College of New York, she made a career of working with paint, sculptures, and quilts to question our conceptions of race, gender, and history. Now, the most comprehensive exhibition of her work is on display at The New Museum, called 'Faith Ringgold: American People.' Curator Massimilliano Gioni and contributing artist Tschabalala Self are with us to speak about the exhibition. 'Faith Ringgold: American People' is on display until June 5.

The new docuseries "Lincoln’s Dilemma," based on David S. Reynolds’ book Abe: Abraham Lincoln in His Times, shines a new light on the 16th president and his decisions during the Civil War. Executive producers Jelani Cobb and Jacqueline Olive join us to discuss.

[REBROADCAST FROM OCTOBER 18, 2021] We reair our conversation about the sprawling, glittery exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams. The exhibition chronicles the designer's glamorous works as well as his relationship with America and American fashion. Senior curator of fashion and material culture Matthew Yokobosky joins us to discuss. The exhibit will be on display through February 20th 2022 at the Brooklyn Museum. 

Lower Manhattan's African Burial Ground is the largest and oldest known burial ground for free or enslaved Africans in the United States. Last year, the poet David Mills released a poetry collection centered around the burial ground, called 'Boneyarn'. Mills is with us to discuss his interest in the space, how he wrote poems with both empathy and outrage inspired by the African Burial Ground, and do some readings.
