Bassist Ron Carter, Hernan Diaz, 'The Unbeable Weight of Massive Talent,' Full Bio: Jackie Robinson, D'Arcy Carden

All Of It with Alison Stewart | May 4, 2022

Prolific jazz bassist Ron Carter turns 85 today, and on May 10 he'll be celebrating his birthday with a career-retrospective concert at Carnegie Hall. Carter, who was a member of Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet and has become the most recorded bassist of all time (at over 2,200 recordings), joins us to preview the concert and reflect on his career.

Our May 2022 Get Lit with All Of It book club selection is Trust by Hernan Diaz! Diaz joins us for a preview conversation ahead of our forthcoming book club event. Trust tells the story of one man's massive fortune, and his failing mental health, in early 20th century New York City.

It takes some guts to write a movie for a big star... about a big star... without asking them first. That's exactly what writer and director Tom Gormican did with his latest film, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," which stars Nic Cage as Nic Cage, lured into a criminal underworld by a man who professes to be Nic's biggest fan. Gormican joins us to discuss and tell us how he managed to get Nic Cage on board. "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" is in theaters now.

For the latest installment of our ongoing Full Bio series, we speak with Kostya Kennedy, author of a new biography about Jackie Robinson, called, True: The Four Seasons of Jackie Robinson. The book comes almost 75 years after Robinson made his professional baseball debut. On day two, we talk about Robinson's playing style, why he became a more aggressive player, and how he handled the intense media attention.

Actor D'Arcy Carden became beloved for her role as Janet on the hit comedy, "The Good Place." Now, she stars in Season 3 of the acclaimed HBO Max series, "Barry," and in the upcoming TV adaptation of "A League of Their Own." She joins us to discuss her new projects, and to look back at her career thus far.
