'The Inspection,' Fantasy from Rebecca Roanhorse, Get Lit: Margaret Wilkerson Sexton and Roxy Coss

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Nov 28, 2022

Inspired by the real life story of writer and director Elegance Bratton, "The Inspection" tells the story of a young gay man (Jeremy Pope) who struggles to find acceptance for his identity both at home, and as a part of the U.S. Marine Corps. Bratton and Pope join us to discuss the film, which is in theaters now.

Celebrated fantasy novelist Rebecca Roanhorse has two new books out this year. The first, Fevered Star, is the second in her Between Earth and Sky series, fantasy novels inspired by pre-Columbian American civilizations. The second is Tread of Angels, a novel set in a version of the Wild West where society is divided between the Elect and the Fallen. Roanhorse joins us to discuss her writing.

We air highlights from our November Get Lit with All Of It book club event! Our author this month was Margaret Wilkerson Sexton, who joined us to discuss her novel, On the Rooftop. The story follows a mother in 1950s San Francisco who is determined to have her three daughters achieve fame and success as a singing trio... even if that's not what they want. Hear Alison's interview with Sexton, as well as some of the audience Q&A portion of the evening.

Jazz musician and composer Roxy Coss joined as the musical guest at our November Get Lit, and discussed her work as founder and president of the Women In Jazz Organization. She performed original songs with guitarist Alex Wintz, including one from her most recent album, Disparate Parts.
