Lee Daniels and Jordan E. Cooper's 'Ain't No Mo,' Mike Birbiglia's 'The Old Man & The Pool,' Holding On With Maira Kalman, Exploring the Stories of Cab Drivers
Producer Lee Daniels and playwright and star Jordan E. Cooper join us to discuss their new Broadway satire "Ain't No Mo,'" about a world in which Black Americans are offered a free one-way ticket to Africa by the U.S. government. "Ain't No Mo'" is running at the Belasco Theater through February 26th
Comedian Mike Birbiglia was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years ago. He chronicles his attempts to reverse that diagnosis by taking up swimming in his hilarious new one-man show, "The Old Man & the Pool." Birbiglia joins us to discuss the show, which is running now at the Vivian Beaumont Theater through January 15th.
Artist, author, and designer Maira Kalman's latest book, Women Holding Things, is, in her words, "a love song to women and at times everyone (as exhausted as we all are from holding everything)." Like much of her work, it combines her observations with her paintings and becomes something whimsical, philosophical and deeply moving. She joins us to discuss.
A new series hosted by comedian Kareem Rahma explores the lives and stories of NYC cab drivers. "Keep the Meter Running" is a TikTok show that follows cab drivers as they take Rahma on adventures around the city, whether that be to a driver's favorite Moroccan restaurant or to Pier 40 to kick around a soccer ball with a preprofessional player turned cab driver. Along the way the cab drivers share life lessons and tidbits of wisdom, and at the end Rahma covers the fare, costs of meals, and a 15% tip. Rahma joins to discuss.
