American Soprano Ailyn Pérez's Debut at the Met
The Leonard Lopate Show | Feb 24, 2015
The American soprano Ailyn Pérez made her long-overdue Met debut as Micaëla in Carmen, on February 6. The Chicago-born daughter of first-generation immigrants from Mexico, Pérez is one of few American Hispanic women to sing major roles on the Met stage, and she has won both the 15th annual Plácido Domingo Award and the 2012 Richard Tucker Award, becoming the only Hispanic recipient in the award’s 35-year history.
