An Interview with Jean-Jacques Perrey

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Jean-Jacques Perrey is the guest on this episode of Music and the Message. Dr. Griffin and Perrey talk about the methods that electronic composers use and how they are different than more traditional composition techniques. Perrey talks a little bit about his goal of creating electronic pop music, as opposed to many electronic composers that take themselves too seriously and create more 'elite' kinds of music. Perrey talks about musique concrète, his use of filters, and how he manipulates and transforms sounds. We hear selections from The Amazing New Electronic Pop Sound of Jean Jacques Perrey (1968).
