The movie Birdman had a lot of memorable stuff going on – the dizzying one-take tracking shot, Michael Keaton running in his underpants, and the crazy drumming that served as a soundtrack. Well that crazy drummer was Antonio Sanchez, Mexican-born but based here in New York since 1999, and that score won him a Grammy. Now Sanchez has released SHIFT – Bad Hombre Vol. II, a collection of collaborations with musicians from both sides of the Rio Grande. This song, “Risa de Mujer” (“the woman’s laughter”), is a collaboration with the Mexican-American singer Lila Downs, and it gives us a hint of that stormy Birdman sound.
