Cuban-American pianist Arturo O’Farrill and his 18-piece Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra are teaming up with the gifted Haitian singer Emeline Michel, the Dominican guitarist and singer Yasser Tejeda, and others for a two night program called Jazz Across The Americas – An Afro-Caribbean Experience. It’s the first time these musicians, all with celebrated careers, have worked together, but the rhythms of Africa form a common bond between their Cuban, Haitian, and Dominican sounds. Plus they’re all New Yorkers so you can expect to hear some big city energy as well. Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra join Emeline Michel, Yasser Tejeda, and sax player Godwin Louis on June 16 and June 17 at Chelsea Factory.
