#AskTheMayor: Guns in Schools?

This week NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio takes calls from listeners and discusses the nationwide student movement for stronger gun laws, and the various questions now facing students and teachers regarding safety, protest, and responsibility. The Mayor says he supports New York City students who want to participate in the March walkout (with parent's permission), calling it a "profound" and "teachable moment." The Mayor also said, in an effort to protect students, the city would move forward in daily unannounced weapons "scanning" in public middle and high schools.

The Mayor just stated that scanning in schools will help, he should talk to ours where our attendance improved when we reduced scanning. It's the culture that matters, not scanning. Scanning=mini prisons. When kids feel heard they speak out when they see something. @BrianLehrer
