The Bad Plus looks like a jazz band – you know, piano, bass and drums – but over the years they’ve amassed a big following with their inventive covers of everything from Stravinsky to Blondie, and their own works often ride over a rock-steady groove. The band has put together a special set for the annual Big Ears Festival in Knoxville; the festival (of course) was cancelled this year but Big Ears has been presenting lots of online specials, and the Bad Plus set just might include this piece called Hurricane Birds.

The Bad Plus, a trio of piano, bass, and drums, recorded a full set at Knoxville’s beautiful Bijou Theater as part of the Big Ears Festival online, and it’ll be available to stream through Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.
