Baroque Beatles Book - Part 2 of 3

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

"The Beatles tend to be drowned out by their own sheer volume. The kids insist on playing them so terribly loud that most older people flee in absolute anguish, for how can you like music that cracks your ear drums wide open?"

In this episode, Ed Canby whistles and sings to illustrate the differences and similarities of the original Beatles tunes and Joshua Rifkin's more highbrow interpretations on "The Baroque Beatles Book". In particular, Canby spends some time examining Rifkin's Bach-like cantata that was inspired by The Beatles "Please Please Me." Canby's own choral group, The Canby Singers, contributed vocals to this particular recording.
