Bette Smith at Mercury Lounge

Bette Smith at Mercury Lounge
July 9. 6PM. $21.25

Bette Smith is from Brooklyn, though sometimes her music practically screams “Memphis!” That’s because she draws on that great, southern rock/soul sound – and has worked in the past with Memphis guitarist Luther Dickinson and members of the southern band the Drive-By Truckers. On Friday, she’ll release her new album called Goodthing, which draws on her experience with gospel and spirituals.  But if you think that she’ll be tamping down her sassy, occasionally raunchy side, well think again. Bette Smith plays on July 9 at Mercury Lounge.
