Bombino at Brooklyn Bowl
September 21. $25 - 30
Doors: 6:00 PM | Show: 8:00 PM. 21+
The Nigerien guitarist Bombino has built his considerable global reputation on his ability to combine the rhythms of the Tuareg people of the Sahel region of Africa with his virtuosity on the electric guitar. So it’s interesting to hear him play acoustic on his song, “Ayo Nigla,” which means “let’s go together.” Bombino is one of the leaders of the style known as “Desert Blues,” and there is a poignant, bluesy quality to this song of lost love, but it also doesn’t sound too far removed from the sound of the folk songs of the British Isles: after all, it’s elegant and sad, and it’s about a subject that’s as universal as you can get. He plays tonight at Brooklyn Bowl.
