One week ago marked the 400th anniversary since the death of William Shakespeare, and we are bringing you three of our favorite Shakespeare related interviews from deep in our archives. In 1989, Sir Kenneth Branagh talked about his new adaptation of Henry V, which he directed and starred in, and which many critics consider one of the best Shakespeare film adaptations ever made. Then you’ll hear our interview with James Shapiro from 1996, when he had just released his book about anti-Semitism in the Elizabethan era, titled “Shakespeare and the Jews.” And in 2014, Leonard spoke to John Lithgow about his performance as the Mad King in the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of King Lear, which was the first time that production appeared at The Delacorte Theatre in 41 years.
