Bonus Weekend Podcast: Remembering Jonathan Demme

Jonathan Demme’s interests were wide-ranging – and his films covered everything from serial killers to music, comedy, and the AIDS crisis, as well as things that might have seemed unfilmable. But what bound them together was his great compassion, and unerring eye. We were sadden when he died unexpectedly last week, at the age of 73, but we feel so fortunate for his many interviews with us over the years. In 2007 Leonard spoke to him about “Right to Return” a series of 5 short films about the lower 9th ward in New Orleans post-Katrina. In 2008, we talked about his feature film “Rachel Getting Married.” And in 2012, Jonathan and Leonard were joined by Neil Young to talk about their collaboration on the film “Neil Young: Journeys.”
