Garrard Conley grew up as the son of a Baptist pastor in a small town in Alabama. When he was 19, his parents learned that he was gay, and he enrolled in a church-supported 12-step “gay conversion” program. In his memoir Boy Erased, he details how he managed to leave the program and accept himself for who he is.

Event: Garrard Conley will be speaking and signing copies of his memoir at Book Culture (536 W 112th St) on June 8th at 7 p.m.
