Brandee Younger at Flushing Town Hall
Brandee Younger Trio at Flushing Town Hall
May 3. 8PM. $18-$25.
Harpist Brandee Younger has remade the image of her instrument, long associated with classical music – or grade school visions of heaven. Younger is a contemporary reminder and extension of a largely unsung tradition of Black women who play the harp in a jazz setting. In fact, Younger has recorded her own versions of songs by her predecessors, Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane; but for the most part she writes her own music and leads her own ensemble. She often includes occasional guest singers and rappers, but Younger’s trio is her main musical vehicle. Brandee Younger Trio plays on May 3 at Flushing Town Hall.Â
"Brandee Younger is a powerhouse of the harp."Â - Terence Blanchard
