Brooklyn Bridge Expansion and Transportation Department Updates

The Brian Lehrer Show | Aug 9, 2016

The Brooklyn Bridge promenade, which is used by around 10,000 pedestrians and 3,500 cyclists on a typical weekday, could be getting an expansion.

"It’s challenging to retrofit bridges," Polly Trottenberg, Commissioner of the New York Department of Transportation. "As cycling grows in this city there’s a real hunger to make bridges more accessible."

She talks about the Brooklyn Bridge promenade expansion study and this weekend's annual "Shared Streets" festival.
