A History of 'The Brownies Book'

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Feb 17, 2021

The Atlantic has launched a new project called “Inheritance” that takes a close look at US history and the ways in which Black life has been excluded from historical narratives. The series will feature writing by a wide range of authors, including Anna Deavere Smith, Vann Newkirk, Clint Smith, Anna Holmes, and Danielle Allen. Anna Holmes joins us to discuss her article for the project titled, “The Magazine That Helped 1920s Kids Navigate Racism,” about The Brownies Book, which was edited by W.E.B. Du Bois.
