The 'Cake Artist,' The Supreme Court, And The Impact on LGBTQ Rights

Midday on WNYC | Dec 27, 2017

Sarah Posner, a reporter with the Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute, discusses her special investigation, "The Christian Legal Army Behind ‘Masterpiece Cakeshop,’” for an upcoming special issue of The Nation magazine. She offers the first exhaustive account of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the Christian-right powerhouse behind the Supreme Court case Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. V. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. Masterpiece is a conservative Christian "cake artist" who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. Posner exposes how the ADF has positioned itself at the center of efforts to curtail LGBTQ rights in the guise of religious freedom over the course of the past decade.

This is a rebroadcast of a segment guest hosted by Mary Harris.
