Call for Church to Connect with LGBT Catholics

The Brian Lehrer Show | Jul 7, 2017

A little over a year ago, a gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub called Pulse in Orlando, Florida. It was the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history. In response, Father James Martin implored fellow Catholics to stand with the people of Orlando and with LGBT people everywhere. Martin's aim is to start a new, inclusive dialogue between LGBT Catholics and the Church to create a more solid sense of welcome and solidarity. He discusses his recent book, Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity  (Harper One, 2017).
