Cambodia's Forgotten Era of Rock and Roll

The Leonard Lopate Show | Apr 21, 2015

Director John Pirozzi, along with musicians Mol Kagnol and Seang Tana, discuss the vibrant music and culture of Pre-Khmer Rouge Cambodia. Kagnol and Tana are featured in Pirozzi’s new documentary, “Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll.” 40 years ago, Phnom Penh fell to the Khmer Rouge, and Cambodian rock and roll was no more. Clubs were closed, record collections were destroyed, and star musicians were targeted and killed. The movie pays homage to the country’s rock legends who paid for their creativity with their lives. The movie will play at Film Forum April 22-28.
