Colm Meaney And Timothy Spall Take A Car Ride

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jun 15, 2017

Director Nick Hamm, and actors Timothy Spall and Colm Meaney join us to discuss their new film, “The Journey.” The film re-imagines the real life event that found two men on opposite sides of the conflict in Northern Ireland sharing a car ride through the Scottish countryside. Spall plays Ian Paisley, a conservative British loyalist, who ends up seated next to Martin McGuinness, played by Colm Meaney. McGuinness is a former Irish Republican Army leader who advocates for Irish reunification. Their unlikely trip offers the two men the chance to engage one another as people and, possibly, begin the process of bringing peace to Ireland.

"The Journey" opens June 16th at IFC Center (323 6th Ave.) and Lincoln Plaza Cinemas (1886 Broadway, between W 62 and W 63rd St.)

Director Nick Hamm, screenwriter Colin Bateman, and actors Timothy Spall and Colm Meaney will appear for a Q&A at the IFC Center for the 8:00 p.m. screening on June 16.
