Over the years the Spanish Harlem Orchestra has kept alive the sound of salsa dura – or hard salsa. But that doesn’t mean they’re traditionalists – the orchestra’s arrangements echo the older sounds of the barrio and the newer sounds of New York, including a recent album called The Latin Jazz Project. They’ve also picked up three Grammy Awards along the way. On Friday, July 16, Carnegie Hall presents the Spanish Harlem Orchestra in a free concert in Bryant Park.
