Why College Is Outdated & How We Can Fix It

The Leonard Lopate Show | Sep 19, 2017

Cathy N. Davidson, the Founding Director of the Futures Initiative and a Distinguished Professor in the Ph.D. Program in English at the Graduate Center, CUNY, joins us to discuss her latest book The New Education: How to Revolutionize the University to Prepare Students for a World In Flux. Davidson argues that our current system of higher education is outdated, and therefore, unable to fully prepare young people for the modern world and the gig economy. She travels to different schools to speak with educators who want to fix this problem by emphasizing student-centered learning that focuses on creativity.

Cathy N. Davidson will appear in conversation with William Kelly at the New York Public Library (Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, 476 Fifth Ave, at 42nd and Fifth Ave.) on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
