CBS 2 Reporter John Slattery Dies

Veteran CBS 2 Reporter John Slattery has died. The television station says he died of a heart attack. He was 63.

The Emmy-award winning reporter covered stories for more than 30 years, including the death of John Lennon in 1980, and the World Trade Center bombings in 1993. CBS also said he was one of the first reporters on the scene on September 11th.

Noreen Lark, a producer at WPIX-TV, worked with Slattery for more than 17 years. She said he was a natural storyteller who loved his job.

"This was a man who got it done," she said. "There was no story too complicated that he couldn't distill down to its essence."

CBS President and General Manager Peter Dunn praised Slattery as someone who could be counted on to cover big stories in New York and around the world. Slattery is survived by his wife, Suzie, their children, and grandchildren.
