There was always so much going on in a Rolling Stones song. But spare a thought for drummer Charlie Watts; he was the glue that held the songs together and the imperturbable onstage presence who kept the mayhem from becoming just a big mess. Watts was a jazz drummer in a rock band, and now, some of New York’s first call jazz musicians, and members of the Stones touring band, are doing a tribute to the late Charlie Watts at the Blue Note. Charlie Watts died in 2021, and a musical tribute to the late drummer will fill the Blue Note Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 29-31.
