Chucho Valdés & Irakere 45 at The Blue Note, April 24-29
Tickets: $55-$75. Shows at 8PM at 10:30PM

The great Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés founded the band Irakere in the early 1970's. That band became a proving ground for years of musical experiments, drawing on ancient Afro-Cuban rhythms, popular Caribbean dance music, jazz and occasional electronics. And while Valdés has gone on to a solo career, he still keeps the Irakere songbook alive. Chucho Valdés and his Afro-Cuban Messengers honor Cuba’s African roots with an Irakere revival in a residency at the Blue Note starting tomorrow, April 24, and running through Saturday, April 29.
