The Triumphs, and Struggles, of Orson Welles

The Leonard Lopate Show | Dec 10, 2014

Director Chuck Workman talks about the life and career of Orson Welles. His new documentary, Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles, mixes interviews and archival footage of Welles, an actor known for his extravagance, unreliability and artistic expression. The film also covers Welles’ transient childhood, his international gypsy lifestyle and his thirst for innovation that led to adventuresome stage triumphs like the all-black “Voodoo Macbeth” in his early 20s and his tour-de-force “Citizen Kane.” The film is playing at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema.
