Cimafunk refers to his music as Afrocuban funk. The young Cuban singer and songwriter likes to let his roots show, so his songs are often built around the sounds of traditional Cuban instruments. Then he brings the funk, and sometimes, he even brings the funk master, aka George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic fame, who has collaborated with him. Like any good funk band, though, Cimafunk’s music is best experienced live, and he plays two sets at the Blue Note on Thurs., Sept. 2.
