City Council Races 2017: Fighting Resentment in the Upper West Side

WNYC is taking a closer look at some of the most competitive City Council races in partnership with City Limits and Gotham Gazette.

School segregation and luxury development are the two big issues at the center of the District 6 race on the Upper West Side. Sitting City Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal is facing a tough reelection following a contentious fight to redraw school zones and a flood of high-end skyscrapers.

Jarrett Murphy, executive editor of City Limits, spoke to WNYC's Kerry Nolan about Rosenthal's top opponent and the shrinking number of women in City Council.
